Reassuring Reasons why Hypnosis is your Friend

Believe the hype or think for yourself

For too long hypnosis has had a bad or ‘difficult’ press. If a person doesn’t understand something they have 3 options open to them.

1) They might be sceptical and therefore save the trouble of looking further and possibly benefiting.
2) They may conclude it is dangerous and to be avoided at all costs.
3) They may spend time discovering the truth behind the hype.

If you don’t know much about a topic it’s easy to be suspicious. Some people assume hypnosis is akin to a carnival side show, others consider it mystic mumbo jumbo or ‘mind control.’ For those who look beyond the hype the truth is far more illuminating.

The most powerful tool you possess

There are potentially huge benefits for those who use hypnosis as part of everyday life. When you understand hypnosis you start to see its potential to improve human performance in the physical, emotional and intellectual realms. For me, rumour, gossip and suspicion weren’t good enough.

I determined to learn all I could about hypnosis – I learned every fact and practised every technique under the sun. I took several training courses – some good, some terrible. I invested thousands of hours of devoted study to hypnosis and discovered just what is possible. I hypnotised friends, neighbours and work colleagues. Hypnosis greatly changed things for me on a personal level

How hypnosis helped me

I used to be shy. Thanks to hypnosis I can now talk to thousands at a time and can approach anybody calmly and confidently.

I used to have poor concentration and procrastinate; thanks to hypnosis I can instantly motivate myself.

I used to find physical work outs and exercise exhausting but because of hypnosis I am now in the best shape of my life.

Incidentally I also stopped myself blushing with hypnosis. Now if ever I have a difficult call or conversation coming up, something I may naturally feel reluctant to do (you know the kind of thing) I spontaneously self hypnotise and rehearse the upcoming situation feeling good, with myself remaining calm. In this way I habitually set my own emotional ‘blue prints’ for up coming situations. Having said that it’s naturally that some people have concerns or half digested ‘hand me down’ ideas regarding hypnosis. A common one is the one about ‘mind control.’ However what does this really mean?

Why you are more in control of yourself in hypnosis

If someone expresses concerns about being ‘controlled’ in hypnosis what they mean is they don’t want to be like a robot, an automaton that is forced to obey the every whim of the hypnotist. We can’t help but influence others but we don’t control them. To understand why you need to understand hypnosis better.

So what is hypnosis like?

Hypnosis isn’t like a coma. It’s not unconsciousness – more a subtle shifting of consciousness. In hypnosis, you can still think logically but you also have access to the ‘software’ of your mind so that you can update instinctive emotional and physical responses. In fact the hypnotised subject (not the hypnotist) calls the shots. When I hypnotise someone I need to go at their speed and respond to their needs and expectations. Hypnosis will give you more control in your own life because of what it enables you to do.

How can I be so sure?

Because over the decades I’ve seen all kinds of people, all ages and from all backgrounds turn their lives around thanks to hypnosis. When you use hypnosis for yourself it improves confidence in all kinds of ways. When you use it to change other’s lives it just blows you away. This is what I mean.

When I first hypnotised someone to feel no sensation in a painful arthritic arm it was an incredible feeling. When I first cured life long phobias quickly and comfortably I was astounded. When I stopped hardened alcoholics from drinking and even got a heroin addict off the stuff and back into mainstream life again I started to feel angry that people could just associate hypnosis with entertainment.

With the aid of hypnosis I (and many people I have trained and worked with) have helped severely depressed people feel strong and positive again. The rewards and satisfactions are hard to describe. I’m going to take a stand against ignorance and short sightedness around hypnosis and here’s why.

Why you need to reclaim hypnosis for yourself

Hypnosis is your birthright. It’s nature’s optimum learning tool. In fact to learn and perform anything well you need to experience a natural focussing of attention, a natural kind of hypnosis. To be successful hypnosis needs to be your companion and friend.

Successful people use it naturally all the time because hypnosis is natural. It’s the way we learn new responses. Unlike medications its side effects are purely positive – one expectant mother I worked with to feel relaxed during child birth later reported that she was also more relaxed when flying!

Hypnosis is easy to learn and every body can benefit. Hypnosis is a safe environment to ‘try out’ new behaviours and emotional patterns before you experience them for real. So the young man can ask a woman out for a date many times in calm relaxed hypnosis so that by the time he does it for real it feels real and natural and relaxed. Sports people who use hypnosis learn new quicker and more accurately. So hypnosis gives you more control of yourself and your life, it’s natural and gives you instant benefits and it’s a way of ‘trying on’ and establishing new patterns of emotional response and behaviour, Hypnosis enables you to develop yourself as a human being.

HypnosisDownloads.com offer a free course called ‘Learn Hypnosis in 5 Days‘.

Pay attention. Concentrate. Focus. The voice that demands that we focus is usually tense. Especially when that voice is our own, it pulls us back from distraction by sheer force of will. Concentration takes power.

What if focus could be easy and natural? That kind of focus might actually loosen the tension in your jaw, and relax the muscles in your shoulders. That kind of focus might make more energy available for the task at hand. That kind of focus is available to you.

Watch a small child at play with a cardboard box. Context drifts away and the child disappears into a world of her own making. She is entirely focused, entirely in flow. Her concentration is a form of play, natural and productive.

Your best state for solving problems and creating opportunities is the same state of relaxing into focus. When you do it naturally, you lose track of the need to concentrate: you simply engage all of your attention into just one activity.

The question becomes, how can you practice moving into a state of relaxed focus quickly, easily and effectively?

One answer is to practice going into trance. Trance is a state of relaxed focus which can be used to apply your best thinking to a specific issue or opportunity. When you enter trance, you allow your mind to follow just one out of the many threads available to it. You concentrate all of your attention on just one thing.

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis: the person in trance is always the person in control of the trance. Most people find that trance is also a state that is easily learned – like many places, it is more complicated to find the first time you go there. After you’ve been there a few times, it becomes steadily easier to go back into trance.

Trance is inherently healthy and enjoyable. It is the natural state in which the human mind plays with ideas to identify new choices or make decisions. Slowing down in trance allows you to speed up the actions and changes that result when you have the information you need. You come out of trance relaxed and ready to act.

Any experience of hypnosis will begin to teach you how to deliberately enter trance when you need to concentrate your thoughts and abilities. Any training in leading other people into trance will also allow you to become familiar with how you go into trance.

Training in hypnosis is not useful because it allows you to take control of other people’s minds. It is useful because it allows you to relax and focus the thoughts of just one mind: your own. When you train as a hypnotist, you condition yourself to relax and focus.

How much more would you accomplish this week if you were entirely relaxed as you concentrated all of your thoughts and efforts? You can learn to enter the state that produces your best thinking. Your most intense thinking can be a chance to relax, recharge and prepare for action.

All it takes is the ability to enter trance – a natural state of focus, relaxation and great new ideas.

Here are a variety of tips and ideas to help you reduce the amount of unnecessary stress in your life.

1) Eliminate News. Many people read newspapers or watch the news on television on a frequent basis. The contents of the news can be highly stress invoking. Have you ever heard the term “no news is good news”? You have the power to reduce or eliminate the constant stream of negative news in your life. What do you think the chances are that the stuff you are watching is the stuff they want the public to know. It has been said that a stressed and frightened person is more susceptible to being controlled, does watching or reading the news increase or decrease your level of stress?

2) Get rid of commercials. Do you believe that drinking beer will make you more appealing to the opposite sex? Can those portable stain removers really save your social status? How are you being programmed or influenced by advertisements? You may think that the hundreds of ads you read or watch every day don’t effect you but there is so much more going on than you can consciously process!!! If Metaphors are used in therapeutic ways to bring about positive changes in behavior then why do you think they use them in commercial advertising? If you must watch regular TV then get a PVR and fast forward through the advertisements, if you listen to the radio, change the channel at commercials or get a Sirius or XM Satellite radio and listen to commercial free music!

3) Take time for yourself! When was the last time you did something for yourself, something just for you, nobody else…just you. How do you start your day? How do you end your day? Could you take 10 minutes in the morning or evening to focus on positive things? A great way to do this is to take that time and focus only on what you are grateful for. You can start with really simple stuff like, I am grateful for clean water, I am grateful for being alive, I am grateful for all the people in my life who support me, I am grateful for the experiences I will have (or had) today, I am grateful for the opportunity to live another day! Say them slowly, calmly and with passion. Being truly grateful for the good things in your life can bring more good! Let go of hate, resentment, disappointment and embrace the concept that everything happens to you for a reason and a purpose to serve you in some way. Just because you may not know how it serves you YET, doesn’t mean that it isn’t exactly what you need! If you think you don’t have time to take time for yourself, then ask yourself this…. If I can’t take time for me then what priority do I have in MY LIFE?

3) Use the music! Music is one of the great gifts we have that can change our state of mind. By choosing to listen to music that moves you in positive ways you can reduce stress and empower your day! Do you have a song that puts you in a great mood? Play it to take you there! Choose a song to play while you take time for yourself and after a few days you will find that you can relax and begin to enjoy the time more quickly because the music will re-create the state. Why do we have music if not to enjoy it!

4) Read enlightening and empowering books! There are now thousands of books that deal with personal empowerment, the power of intention, healing, meditation, holistic arts, mind power, laws of attraction and much more! Read things that help you discover what a truly amazing, powerful and resourceful being you truly are! You are more than flesh, bones and a brain! You are a being of light and you deserve the very best that life and the universe has to offer! Reading one positive thing can eliminate 1000 negatives!!!

5) Use Downloads to access resourceful states! There are millions of files on the internet which contain information that is enlightening and beneficial. Whether you find yourself downloading some of our Hypnosis MP3 recordings or searching podcasts for information from people like Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Lisa Nichols or Anthony Robbins, the information is out there for you to access. You will find messages of hope, empowerment and tools that you can learn to use to take control of every aspect of your life.

6) Take a course! Whether you want to earn a degree or simply participate in an interesting workshop, the first step is to find the resources! Your community college, libraries and community centers all have interesting groups, courses and meetings going on. Decide to learn something new and grow! In nature, if something isn’t growing…it’s dying! We are part of nature too, we need to continue to learn and expand our knowledge in new and exciting ways! Taking workshops and courses is also a great way to expand your base of friends and make new connections with like minded people!

When an elephant is taken from the wild to be trained for the circus the training begins by driving a long steel stake deep into the ground. The elephant is then affixed to the stake with a thick steel chain. For the first while, the elephant will frequently pull on the chain and test it to see if he can get free, he believes he is still wild and free. But over time he tests the chain less frequently until he accepts the fact that the chain is just too strong to break.

Once he accepts this, he has changed his belief from one of being wild and free to simply being
captive…

Once the elephant makes this decision, the trainer can remove the heavy chain and replace it with a light rope and a steel stake that is only a couple feet into the ground. He knows that the elephant will no longer try to get free, he knows that it is no longer the Rope, the chain or the stake that imprisons the elephant. It is the elephant’s belief that he is captive that imprisons him…even though it’s not true!

Despite the fact that the elephant could easily break the rope and run away, he never does. As long as he feels the rope around his leg, He accepts his restriction.

This belief is so strong that in 1967 in Mannheim Gemany, 6 elephants died in a tent fire…still tied to their stakes, despite the fact that they could have easily made a decision to break free and run to safety.

What do you believe that isn’t true?

Insomnia or difficulty falling asleep affects over 64 million people in North America and millions more around the world. Although insomnia can be a symptom of other health problems, for many people it is simply an inability to calm the mind that keeps them awake. It’s also a self perpetuating problem because once you begin to TRY to get to sleep it becomes almost impossible to do so. To make matters worse, if the problem persists for several nights, anxiety can then become a factor as you begin to worry in advance, that you won’t be able to fall asleep when you go to bed.

Hypnosis provides a quick and easy solution for many people who suffer from insomnia. The structure of the language patterns used by Hypnotists causes the listener to attach their own meaning to certain statements that the practitioner is making, thereby occupying the conscious mind while suggestions are given to help the listener enter into a state of physical relaxation. It’s not long before you just find yourself deeply relaxed and drifting along as you listen to all the positive suggestions the Hypnotist is providing.

Some people who have never experienced Hypnosis may not consider it a viable option because they have seen Hypnotists at stage shows or on TV that seem to have control over peoples actions. The fact is that all Hypnosis is Self Hypnosis and it is the listener that actually has control over the experience. When you are in Hypnosis, you can stop or pop out of the experience any time you wish.

In our Hypnosis recordings, we also provide suggestions that will “break the insomnia cycle”. On of the ways to achieve this is by teaching the unconscious mind to respond in a desired way to a specific phrase. For example, once the listener is in a very deep state of physical relaxation, the phrase “sleep now” can be associated to the state so that in the future the listener need only say or think that statement 3 times in order to return to the restful state. This is referred to as anchoring because it “anchors” a physical or mental state (in this case deep relaxation) to a specific phrase or action. Best of all, once the unconscious mind learns this, getting to sleep gets easier and easier.

So don’t be afraid to give Hypnosis a try if you suffer from insomnia, it really can help and you may just find yourself sleeping better that you have in a very long time.

By Linda Ferguson

If I were to argue here that the heart of business communication is hypnotic, you would probably be alarmed. Most professionals have little understanding of hypnosis and less interest in something they see as either manipulative or nonsense. Those professionals have never encountered hypnosis as it was practiced by Milton Erickson.

There are many and varied accounts of the practice of Erickson and his remarkably effective techniques for communicating in ways that elicited positive, productive behaviours. Common to all of them are two essentials: the ability to use respect and rapport to build agreement and the ability to build focus within that agreement. Understood in this way, Erickson’s communication should be required study for all business people.

Erickson began with the premise that no one can or should be forced to change. All influence springs from agreement based on respect and rapport. The would-be influencer must first study and replicate the thinking and experience of the person to be influenced. This involves a disciplined, structured approach to observing and communicating experience.

Imagine for a moment, that you enroll in a course in Ericksonian Hypnosis. You will learn to communicate with one person at a time. As you do, you will build the skills necessary to influence decision makers without putting anyone in trance. You may find the same strategies useful as you work with groups or write.

One of the first steps in your study will be to become more skilled in calibration: the ability to notice physiological difference and assign meaning to that difference. You will begin to learn to read people as experts might read a blueprint or a piece of art.

Another word for the willingness to engage with the details of another’s experience is respect: you will practice respect when you notice and accept the particular elements of thoughts and feelings that characterize a colleague or client.
Rapport means demonstrating respect by replicating some aspects of the experience of the person with whom you are agreeing. Rapport comes naturally with people with whom we have lots in common; it is the first thing to go when we put what we want to say ahead of building agreement.

Agreement that is based on talking in the same tone of voice or sitting in similar postures is general and easy to achieve. It is not normally useful in itself; it is an excellent starting point for building the more focused agreement that will allow you to accomplish what you need to accomplish.

You can build on rapport when you use agreement as a structuring principle for speaking or writing. Instead of ordering what you have to say by logic, chronology or importance, you can move through material in order of agreement. In other words, it is possible to start with obvious agreement (as you did when you read the statements in the opening paragraph) and gradually come to more focused agreement.

Focus involves moving from the imprecise to the increasingly precise. Focused agreement means first of all focusing on agreement. By selecting words, points and arguments that are general enough to gain agreement, you can practice a communication strategy that is guaranteed to be influential.

As agreement is formed, it gains momentum. It requires less attention – and therefore fewer resources – to stay in agreement than it does to notice and assert difference. By remaining focused on choosing the words and arguments most agreeable to the receiver, you can learn to focus the agreement using more detail and more precise language.

Ericksonian communication rewards study and practice. Maintaining focused agreement requires increasingly fine calibrations of the receiver’s state and presuppositions. You can learn to continually pay attention to the state (or predicted state) of the receiver and adjust your words and strategies to match it.

Influence in an Ericksonian model begins with a focus on agreement and results in an agreement with focus.
